my cat has a new litter of kittens there 5 days old and this is her 2nd litter anywayz she doesn't seem to understand to pick them up! even with her last litter she never picked them up even if they strayed to far off she just cryed at them or went over and just started licking the kitten she doesn't understand to pick them up at all! any1 have any idea why? she does everythign else perfect its just that 1 thing,its just i'm a bit worried 4 when they get older and they start wondering away from the nest and if were not here and they get to cold or die or something!

I am not sure why your cat is having kittens in the first place, here in the US we have plenty of them that they are having to be euthanized by the dozen at the Animal Shelters. If you are a Breeder of a specialized breed of cat I can see where you might have them, but your kittens learn from their mother, (your cat may not have been taught) if she is not teaching them everything (ie..pick up), then you'll have a lot of cats that might have the same defect, and so on and so on....please think about it, every kitten you have kills another that could have been rescued, ( this is for the US readers on here, not sure if your rescues or shelters kill their overflow of animals).

Some others may have other ideals, I am sure you'll hear from them.

As for your question: Can you put them in an enclosed place like box, or sided with cardboard, or baby gate or something of that nature, the main objective is-she can jump over whatever you use and they can't due to them being too young.

Would it be rude to ask, could you now have your cat neutered and save her more childbirth pain, two litters are enough and as drgnrdr says, there are too many unwanted animals in the world. Your kittens need to be picked up by humans as well as by their mum, before they are six weeks old, otherwise they will not become lap cats when they are found new homes, and although not wild, may not even like a cuddle - everyone who has a cat wants to cuddle them sometime ! Please think again about neutering. Good luck !

consider yourself lucky my friends cat used to pick her kittens up in a unhumane manner. once she was carrying one up the stairs and the kitten hit every step on the way up. sometimes she would carry them by the tail and other times thier whole head would be in her mouth. watching this was the hardest part

i can see your point by neutering a cat but it was the worst thing i ever did with my dog. now i know cats and dogs are different but the problem i had was my dog become aggressive and this has posed a problem for me as she growls and snaps at other dogs leaving her badly mauled at times and no matter how much i try i can't seperate them because they are strong. if i were you b4 thinking about neutering i would talk to people who have cats that have done it. i do believe tho no matter what you do its not going to make one bit of difference to the state of sheltered cats. I'm not sure but i don't think that animals are put down due to no one wanting them as we are a nation of animal lovers and have organisations such as the pdsa and batterby dogs home where they don't put a healthy animal down.

Kelly: Genetics, lack of socializing, and life experiences make a dog aggressive, not the act of spay/neuter, (unless her experience at the clinic where it was performed mistreated her). Don't know what kind of dog you have, or how old it is and when you got them spayed.

Also cats and dogs are put down everyday, healthy or not in the US at the animal shelters, they run out of room they have no where to put them and the rescue orgs are all full and can not take any more either that is what happens to them. Some of the purebred cats and dogs may be rescued but more and more are put down if not rescued. I see animals dumped all the time, some get homes some do not, and so everytime you have babies another that could have gone to a home is put down, someone looking for a cat gets yours instead of one sitting on death row at the shelter. MILLIONS are euthanized every year, all over the states. Take off your rose colored glasses, and check your shelters. (this is for anyone reading this that live in the USA), not sure what happens to those in your country that don't get adopted, but if they have figured out a way to keep millions of animals alive, and only have so much space, I'm sure the US shelters would like to know their answer
