We want to go to South Africa next year to spend Christmas with our family. We would like to stay for about 6 weeks. As we are both retired we can travel at any time. Do we go out mid November and come back early January? or is there a better time price wise for flights? I have been looking round the various websites, but they don't cover the end of next year yet. Any help please with timing issues and who to book with? Thanks in advance.

Try Trailfinders...

airlines don't book more than a year ahead. Why not look at what prices are right now? For now and next March? That will give you a guide, though I expect departure tax will go up again in the meantime.
Flights to South Africa are extremely pricey over the South African school holiday period (starting around early December), so flying out earlier and coming back in early January is better than flying out in mid December and coming back in late January. All the major airlines such as Virgin and BA fly from UK to South Africa but flying direct is normally a lot more expensive. It seems that flights that go via Arabic countries are cheaper. Etihad Airways (www.etihadairways.com) often has some very good offers on flights, and worth checking them out.

South Africa is a great country to visit for a holiday and am sure you will have a lovely time there.
It is better to choose to have flights in earlier time than by December.
