I had it done on the thigh muscles of both legs which seemed to pull a lot when I was a bit younger and it worked very well.
Also, I think it is ancient Chinese treatment and not Hindi, but I may be wrong.
Yes, it's Chinese, earliest documentation is around 3000 BC (the Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine). 2 alternative explanations: Chinese and Western.
Chinese: Disease is caused by imbalance of life force (qi) which flows around the body in channels called meridians. Along the meridians are acupuncture points. Some are Yin, some are Yang, and the points counterbalance each other. Disease is caused by an excess of one or the other. Needles placed in relevant points allow the excess Yin or Yang to escape, thus restoring the balance of the Qi.
Western: Trigger points are nodes of nerve hyperactivity, and are found all over the body. Stimulation of these nodes may affect deeper organs via a skin/nerve reflex; in addition disease in deeper organs may give rise to skin tenderness.
Mechanism of acupuncture pain relief is not clear; most likely acts through A delta nerve fibres to activate the Pain Gate. Whether it REALLY works or not is the subject of a great deal of research at the moment.

i believe accupuncture does work. i had had 10 miscarriages, was at my wits end so decided to opt for alternate therapy. when and had the proceedure dispite trashing it, i hate needles but deperate times and all!!!! i felt a small pop when he placed a needle just above my womb, thort nothing of it. 3 weeks later find out i'm pregnant (conceived the same day as accupunture) didn't think i'd go full term, but had a healthy boy. 11 month later i gave birth to my 2nd boy and just had twins a boy and a girl that was 3 1/2yrs ago. i never had another miscarriage again. i truely believe it works, 4 bundles of joy to show of it.
