I've always used a debit card to make online payments and have wondered whether paypal is safer but haven't come to a conclusion as i know nothing about paypal and to be honest i don't know what rights, dangers or protection using my debit card brings either.
Can anyone knowledgeable about the two tell me which one's the safest and why?

Purely out of interest....In October 2002, PayPal was acquired by eBay for $1.5 billion.

Ron.
If not buying from an eBay seller and the price is over £100 I prefer to pay by credit card. I have protection under s.75 of the CCA and I have to enter a verification code after the transaction for the credit card payment to go through, as an extra layer of security. Only I know the code and the seller never sees it.

Anybody can sell using PayPal whereas a seller has to go through certain loopholes to be Visa or Mastercard retailer.
