What would you do?

Just under a year ago I had the grass in my front and back garden replaced with artificial grass.
The idea was so I wouldn't have to mow the lawn and pull up the weeds.
So I obviously havent had to mow but the weeds are still coming through all around the edge and sometimes in the grass itself.
I was thinking of phoning the company to complain.
What would you do?

Since it is unlikely you will damage the 'grass' I would get some nuclear-powered weedkiller and start spraying.

I'm not so sure it wouldn't damage the grass as it is likely to be synthetic. Check first.

Have just looked at their brochure again and it says No cutting.No weeding.No feeding.
Thing is, it's not cheap and I really thought I wouldn't have to do anything with it.
Anyone else got this grass?

When the job was in preparation, did the put down Tehran sheeting to prevent the weeds coming up?

Unfortunately, artificial grass is not maintenance free. I'm surprised the contractor didn't explain this to you at the time and go through the necessary care required post installation.

I wouldn't complain, just request another care leaflet.

You can put down any membrane you like that will stop old weeds coming up but not new ones from fresh seed deposited by wind or animals.

Didn't watch how they did it TWR but on the invoice it says
Install any edging required. Edging is not needed when grass is going up to a fence,paving,tarmac or wall.
Laying 2t of sharp sand and compacting.
Fitting of a breathable and water permeable weed membrane.
Fitting of artificial grass
Application of sand to top of grass
Securing grass to ground.

Maybe worth asking the company fopr their advice as to best method of removal of the new weeds. It might offer up more help than a complaint would.

Thanks maidup. I will think about what I should say when I phone tomorrow.
I do want to point out to them though that I am not capable of getting rid of the weeds myself and would have to pay someone to come and do this for me.

it's perhaps the same natural phenomenon that lets plants grow in guttering, an accumulation of soil/earth gathers through winds and rain, birds drop seeds or even wind carries seeds, the random seeds land on soil and grow, small clusters of soil will have gathered in the artificial lawn and weeds can grow in them as weeds need very little depth to thrive.
maybe a blast with a hosepipe will get rid of any unwanted soil deposits in future

My neighbour had one put down about 4 years ago. It was lovely and he really
looked after it, wouldn't have a grass out of place. He is so fussy they wouldn't dare! Last year brown patches appeared and then scraggy bits. Ended up he had to have another one relaid earlier this year.
