In response to your question on Stanleymans Lucy update. My advice is Hang on in there Barb. Jade is so you must. You say she is eating and bounces back - this is good. I say this as we had a cat Smokey put to sleep when I was about 18. He had the feline version of aids - but the night I came back from uni - he was eating fine and looking healthy . I'm now 37 and still can't get it out of my head that we put him down before his time. I don't want anyone else going through that.

PS Get the Childrens book "I'll Always Love you" by Hans Wilhelm. It's a choker - but brings a smile to your face also.

Good Luck Barb

Hi Vics, This is a natural reaction and I am already thinking "what if" but I know it is irrational, lets face it, animals are not meant to live as long as many do as pets. When they keep going through good care they develop all sorts of problems like humans do and we are kept going far longer than is good for us and suffering terribly as a result, why inflict this on our pets? We all have a time to go, why prolong it for the sake of draining out the last bit of miserable life?
I put an answer on Stanleyman's original thread this morning saying something similar to you Vic. Barb will know instinctively when Jade is ready to go and she clearly is still enjoying a reasonable quality of life at the moment. Stanleyman knew the time was right for dear Lucy who was clearly not enjoying her life any more. Stanleyman you have done the the best and hardest thing an owner can ever do for a loved pet.
Just to say thankyou so much for answering my plea..as I was writing last night Jade was hobbling around and today is like a puppy again...chasing the hoover around the lounge!! I think the instinct thing is so right gessoo, and stanleyman also knew when the time was right for Lucy. Thanks vics for your kind words...she is my first and only dog, which I think is why I needed to ask...I've never been through this before and even at 37 myself I don't feel grown up enough to do this on my own! AB is such a massive help. Thanks to all and I'll keep you updated. Wow I feel better already.Big hug to stanleyman too! xx
