I heard a talk by a torchbearer last week, the design of the torch was interesting to hear about, it was three sided first to reflect the three Olympic values, and secondly because it's the third time that London has hosted the Olympics. The runners had to carry it with the Olympic logo at the front, and the 8000 holes in it represented the 8000 people who carried the flame.
Thank you for the link Ron, I was afraid that they would be left with the detrius of the Games. Btw I know I sound stupid but I honestly can't tell the difference which way up the Union flag should be.
Flying that flag upside down would be useless as a signal of distress because it looks much the same either way up. But flying the red ensign would work, because anyone could tell that was upside down. Was taught that once, as one of the several methods to be used at sea, if nothing else could be done. I think it ranked below setting fire to a barrel of pitch on the deck, which was another!
