Will they ask for my student loan back?

I'm planning to drop university (or take a year out...) But I was wanting to do it around October time as that works better for me.... however my student loan is supposed to go in at end of sept... if I drop will they ask for it back as I won't actually be at uni to use it?

Excuse me may i just say that my answer has been removed but it was answered given that we had very little information at the time - i was right in my reply.

aw, come on, fgt, the question was pretty straightforward; all it needed was a factual answer. The OP (any OP, really) shouldn't feel under any pressure to give details of her finances and her health if she doesn't want to.

I pretty much agree jno- but I can see why some might have misinterpreted the question "will they ask for it back as I won't actually be at uni to use it" as being "can I keep the money for a bit". Most of us have misinterpreted questions at some stage. Having said that we should go back and clarify things with the questioner before we consider being judgmental.

In fairness we had little information to go on and rightly so if that is clipclop`s wish. clipclop wanted an answer to a specific question. Perhaps we should just answer the question asked and reserve judgemental and virtuous replies for when we have more knowledge of the poster`s circumstances.

I also think it's a bit unfair that posts have been removed and people made to feel guilty because they didn't read previous posts or check family circumstances first (I certainly didn't). Calling another poster presumptious and ignorant is not normally Ok either. I also read it that you wanted your loan to go in even though you knew you weren't going to use it. Having said that I'm glad it's all sorted and you know what you need to do and hope things get better for all of you.

Your explanations concerning your thread are simply not good enough in my opinion.

Your original thread in answer was unacceptable and totally inappropriate suggesting that posters should accept your opinion or " sod off." That sort of post by an ordinary ABer would have been reported and withdrawn, but you have set a poor example which hopefully will not be followed by any reasonable or clear thinking ABer.

This thread has ben blown out of proportion and exacerbated by your intemperate comment.

I am considering carefully my interest in AB which is a pity as I have enjoyed my time of around 8 years.

Sqad.You and I have had differences....one big one. I have always respected your professional opinions and the way in which you deliver them. I also like your humour and contributions to saucy threads.
It would, in my opinion, to be a little churlish and unkind to clipclops to consider leaving AB over what was a disagreement that really had nothing to do with the question. That is your decision of course and will be respected.

If you get a grant they will want your grant back (the uni will tell them you have dropped out). You will be told of what loan you are entitled up until the day you dropped out so really you should pay the extra back(as it could affect any other funding in the future) but you won't be forced to make payments until you are working and earning above the threshold.

Trouble is Sqad if you flounce off in no time at all you will be a thing of the past. AB will go on regardless. It is only you that will suffer, not AB. The same goes for all of us. People come an people go. There are people from 7 years ago that were at the forefront way back then, but nobody gives a jot about them now.
