Ordered something online - not turned up.

I've ordered something off Amazon and its 3 days past its delivery slot.
Have emailed the company. It says on Amazon it was despatched via Royal Mail but no tracking info so I imagine it was sent standard post.
The items were not sold directly by Amazon as they now also sell stuff via private companies much like ebay.
I know that delivery hasnt been attempted as I get everything sent to work that has 24 hour reception/security.
Are the company obliged to sort this out or can they just tow the party line of 'oh well, we sent it - tough' ?

It says on Amazon they get to see any issues like this so they can monitor the progress. Makes sense for traders to comply to Amazons code of conduct if they wish to use their service.
