A minor 7th would be A flat to G flat or A to G.

Yes, it is major 6th. The only thing is that if A is the tonic note then it would be F sharp, rather than G flat - same note, different name.

A minor or diminished 7th is from the tonic to a whole tone below the octave. In OP's example the range is from the tonic to one and a half tones below the octave.
