Does 3 points on your otherwise clean licence for speeding affect your insurance premium and is it a requirement to inform your insurers? If it does what sort of increase to the premium is it (% wise would do)

one 3 pointer alone shouldn't make any difference.
Unfortunately it is a condition of your insurance that you inform your Insurer prior to the renewal date of the policy.
This is a "material" fact and must be disclosed.
No, it doesn't - I have 3 points for an "SP30" offense and when I phoned my insurer they just noted it on the account
I got three points for doing 36mph in a 30 zone. It happened at the time I was about to renew my insurance, and my insurance company certainly increased my renewal premium by something like £30 or £40 I think when I informed them.

Needless to say I went on the comparison sites and managed to get the premium down to a more reasonable level.

But remember, by law you have to declare any points you have received for the following three years.

So, I'm sorry I can't agree with Lazarus's statement, and as for revpat, it sounds so casual that it was just noted on 'the account'.

Perhaps I'm with the wrong insurance company or broker!
