His last tour of duty was cut short because the news blackout was broken by the foreign press.

Why is his second tour now so widely publicised?

Best not ask what he's doing with his chopper then? :)
<smacks Nibble>
They feel he is safe up in the sky where up to the present date no appache helicopters have been shot down by the Taliban.
Arti I agree, I don't think he's done anything wrong either, it's just a ploy by the royal mafia to sweep the bad headlines under the carpet
Despite all the jokes and stuff it's actually an interesting question.

I guess the answer is that knowing he's in a helicopter doesn't change anything. As someone said, the taleban are already doing their level best to shoot down any helicopters they see, so knowing Harry's in one doesn't make any difference.

However, knowing that he was on the ground somewhere could change their strategy in such a way that it it may endanger the people around him to a greater extent than they already were.
Fair point ludwig, but he's not going to be airborne 24/7 so I take it the choppers take off and land in random places?
I'd guess they're based well away from the front line, so whether he's flying or not he'd be relatively safe.
That's ok then, they'd never try to find out where they're based then?
different role, more chance of survival than in previous guise i suspect. Good for him.
Hear hear, sandy - I wish the press would leave him alone.
i don't think the reason he is out there is because of any shenanigans before, he is a serving soldier, and if his commanding officer thought it would be too dangerous he wouldn't be there. As to someone who has no time for the Royal Family, well that is your prerogative, but as been pointed out many of them have served their country in the armed forces, have you?
He'll be flying in and out of Camp Bastion.

If you do some research you'll see that his presence gives no additional risk to the soldiers/air corps already there.
Were I still a young airman(as I once was) I would be far more concerned about a visit from a butch lady rather than a prince of the blood royal.
// I wish the press would leave him alone//
I second that Boxie, the press seem to be hounding him just like they did to his mother. As for the "naked" stunt, it was on the internet and apparently he wasn't completely naked just covering his "crown jewels" with cupped hands!! No different to WI calendar girls then in their poses ................... :))

With respect, madam, I can think of at least two, if not three, important differences.
