My wife passed away nearly 10 years ago leaving me with 2 daughters.
I have gone to various clubs and have been approached by 3 women to date and have formed a friendship.
In every case I have explained to them one half of my house belongs to my daughters as my wife left her half to them and the other half belongs to me.
They have all been house owners.
The friendship goes well for about 2 years and in all cases they suddenly say we should get married and demand I get my daughters half of the house back and will all of the house to their family.
I did sugest they sell their house to buy my daughters out and my half of the house could then be willed to my daughters and then the other half could be willed to their family on the proviso if she outlives me she would have the right to live in the house until she passes away and vice versa.
This has not been acceptable in any of the cases.
I read in a local newspaper today there are a shortage of middle aged widowed men registered with dating agencies and in singles clubs.
In view of what I have just said I am not surprised.

Martin.. dad's 90 and quite self sufficient (with daily help) but I was always under the impression his half of the house would be spent on care homes .. but to be brutally frank, he wouldn't last 5 minutes out of his comfort zone.. bless his cottons...!!
Didn't mean to give the impression that I was super rich or thinking every man was a gold digger. When I divorced many, many years ago I made the decision to buy out my husband's half interest in the property as he did not want it. I have since retired and have a small company pension as well as my state pension. Far from in the "rich" bracket but comfortable. Last "gentleman" friend said he could sell his flat and move in with me?? However, all that being said I'm sure there are some really nice men out there and maybe I'll meet one one of these days.

I don't know how you would class me but there are some flats about a mile from my house which cost about £750,000.
I wish I had the money to buy one.

Martin
That would be so out of my league Martin. Houses up here in Scotland are no way as expensive as those down south. You could buy a flat here for £125,000 and have plenty of choice. Don't think I'd survive in London - be on the breadline lol.
sometimes I think we have lost our way... I know financial security is a big thing for some people to the point of obsession but I feel really sad to hear the stories

Nascal keep looking but try maybe avoiding the clubs... the old standby of adult education classes might be bettr...meet people...become friends see what happens .
I have heard far too many stories of widowed men being 'targeted' by women looking for a free house (including may here on AB) for there not to be a lot of truth in it.
There is a widespread though incorrect view by a lot of older ladies, that if they can find a widowed man with his own house and move in with him, they can 'grab' the house once he pops his clogs.
Remember the post on AB a week or so back where the Dads girlfriend expected the son to move out and give her the entire house before the funeral had even taken place ?
^Of course it could be that most of these posts have been written by the same person under numerous names
