I have moneymakers and shirleys in the garden they are a decent size but all still green, should I leave them or pick them and put them in a box in the shed to ripen, only got a small garden so no greenhouse.Worried if it gets cold they will all go black.
It seems to be a common problem this year. I think it was not warm and sunny enough overall. Some of mine are going black. It is probably best to pick them and try to ripen them - here are suggestions I have hd:
On the window ledge (but needs sun).
In a brown paper bag with one ripe one.
Put in a bag with a banana.
Or you could make green tomato pie. It is an American recipe (it is in one of the "little house" books) and apparently tastes like apple pie.
thanks to all,we are not keen on chutney, especially if I made it ! bound to be a disaster ! so I have picked the biger ones and placed in box with a ripe banana, the rest I am watching over.We have had a good crop of runner beans this year, sadly they are coming to an end, how much nicer they taste than shop bought ones.
