Today I purchased a 0.7mm mechanical pencil which was a risk as I'm used to 0.5mm. In the use of the new instrument, however, especially at an angle of approximately 60 degrees, I found it very pleasing and remarkably functional. I would like your comments on this !

I didn't realise 0.2mm could make such a difference.

(I don't understand metric BTW - are we talking about 6" or so, cos then I will understand why it makes a difference lol)
I agree, the purchase of a small quantity of Viagra had much the same effect on me.
what's a mechanical pencil?
LOL @ Mrs O! She don't understand the difference between 2mm and 6". Fill yer boots, boys!
Well, you don't have a new lead in your pencil - you have a new pencil. And, you should get out more.
I guess it depends what you are doing. Are you writing or drawing with it?
wolfie, a mechanical pencil is only the same as a propelling pencil
...mmm....it's the angle that matters...more lead in your pencil and the angle of dangle decreases....giving better (upright) function and a much more pleasing effect....

....that's my theory :-//
You are obviously a connoisseur on such things thenry, personally I find a .05 is better for fine writing depending on what the subject is. Mechanical pencils are very retro but I find keeping a fine point is harder than with the traditional ones. This subject is so interesting I think maybe we are alike. There is a pencil museum in Beamish I think, maybe that would interest you.

I might just visit your pencil museum gran ! As ,so far, the, extra 2mm has proved effective in that I have not stabbed my Sudoku to death before I've got half way through !
It's an extra 0.2mm, btw.

That aint the way I see it
All depends on what you use it for. I generally get by OK with 0.5mm.
