I want to print out various folder listings.
As usual MS have missed a trick here.

I know how to do this via the command prompt but unfortunately its very limited in what control you have on what you can list.

eg: a music folder I want to print just the title and the artist column

I have looked at various software thats around but being a tightwad I want a freebie if possible !

dont care what format the output is just plain text will do

anybody know of anything

I use an excellent bit of software called MP3Tag to organise the tags - such as title and artist - of my music.

It is free and all you have to do is to add the folder you want to work with and it will list the tracks/tags. Of course you can edit them and there are some great tools to do this but you can also export to a lot of formats.

You may need to adjust the export scripts to get it in the format you want but you can tweak just about anything to your liking.

Thanks for that.
i only used music as an example of the kind of folder, but this has given me an idea.

I have tried out some software that will do what I want but they arent free and this is not a regular thing which is why I dont want to pay for it
