Why do so many singers use an american accent when they are so obviously not from america. Have we really got so little faith in our own cultures that we feel the need to put another countries voice to our own music?

Thank god for folk like Jarvis Cocker, the Proclaimers, Damon Albarn, Oasis, Housemartins and the Beatles etc, etc, etc!!

Och, I hope your next sh*tes a hedgehog.

Hope yours is an upside down xmas tree

I agree with you, snappy - erm...about the false accents, I mean, not about elvis and the hedgehog. British singers putting on American accents has long been a pet hate of mine (except Alabama 3 - I forgive them cos they're all on a great big wind-up anyway!)

sophie ellis bexter sings in her own accent. eg. Murder on the dahr-nce floor.
This is a bugbear of mine to, but you will notice that a lot of newer bands are singing in British!!! Maximo Park, Futureheads, Kaiser Chiefs, Editors etc - all good bands and all speak their own language! Being a British musician is now cool again so thankfully the fake yank accents seem to be less popular. You will even find some American bands sounding distinctly British - I think that the Killers are rather Brit-esque. Think this is because of the scene here, some US bands break better here than there.
I know it does **** me off too but as the person before me said there are some British bands singing with their accents now, Maximo Park etc but of course don't forget the Artic Monkeys!
I sing with an american accent and I can't seem to help it :S
