Laptop black screen

Help!! I don't have a display on my laptop. This happened a couple of weeks ago and I found out what to do to solve it on google but now I can't find the same page. I had to do something like turn off, wait 5 seconds, hit f5 continually for 5 seconds then hit f10 and it took me to the settings but not sure if this was the right way. If anyone knows, please help. I have work to do and can't get on with it. Thanks

If I remember you hit F5 till another screen pops up.
My laptop graphics card was dying when mine used to do this.
I hope it's not that because it's the death knell of your lappy if it is. Sorry.

Nope, nothing is working. Thank god it's insured. Will give the company a buzz and see if it can be fixed!
