PS Vita Wifi v 3G

Hello, Christmas time coming up and No2 son is keen on a PSP or PSvita. I have a few questions I hope someone can help with.

Is there a great advantage in having the 3G over the Wifi?

I saw something that implied that you would need a contract/payg sim to use the 3G rather than it being free like the Kindle - is that the case?

Are the PSPs that are still available for sale worth it or is it far better to pay the extra for a Vita?

You might want to do some research on the Vita as I don't think its selling that well which means software may become limited in the near future.

Thanks Matt. That'll be why the price has dropped down a fair bit.....maybe that'll gee up the sales a bit and with Christmas coming.......????

His other option was a tablet but a iPad is out of reach so was looking at a Google Nexus or an Amazon Fire HD - any views?

Its horses for courses but the brand new Microsoft 'Surface' looks really good and is cheaper than the Ipad I believe. They are billing it as a touch pc rather than a tablet as it has a rather clever cover that unclips to become a keyboard.

Tablets aren't really for me more for the yoofs!
