Brakes of higher performance cars

Is it true that cars such as BMW and Mercedes that have their top speed limted to 155mph only have brakes to 'match' that level of performance? If so would it be ill advised to 'remove' the limitation and allow them to operate up to their full top speed potential

I can't answer that, but another very important issue is tyres. Just because a car can do 155mph plus it doesn't mean that the tyres can sustain that level of speed. They can perhaps accelerate and break from such speeds but if you were to travel for any length of time then the tyres would most likely overheat unless you had specialist high performance tyres fitted.

I think legally or there is an agreement that the manufacturers of road cars are limited to 155mph or something like that.

The cars are limited to 155 so it keeps the German green party happy, cos it means teh autobahns arent full of cars doing 180+ everyday. The tires will easily go upto 155 on restricted cars, but if you unrestricted the car you would have to make sure the tyre markings show that teh tyres can take a higher speed.

gentlemans agreement with the makers, volvo has been using govners on there cars for years,

I understand that BMW and Audi have now withdrawn from the 155mph agreement and future cars will not be artificially speed-limited. Oh joy.
