I'm all set to make Delia's Chrstmas cake, and have all the ingredients except the black treacle (1 dessertspoonful) I don't really want to have to buy a whole tin of it so is there something else I could use as a substitute? I have runny honey. Would a cup of strong tea do? or shall I just leave it out all together? Thank you.

I loath the smell of black treacle and use golden syrup instead. Honey should work.

Thanks Woof.
Treacle helps with the colour, as woof says golden syrup or honey will work just fine x
