i think they are raising the tax threshhold for the ordinary working family so that the tax credit claims will go down, hence giving with one hand and taking away with the other, but i may be wrong,

Answer to the first part, No. Answer to the second part, Yes.
To be fair I don't know of any Government in my lifetime that has ever got everything 100% right and I don't suppose there ever will be.
I do think, though, that they are going in the wrong direction. Not to the right of politics, not to the left but more, sort of, well, downwards.....?
