3D On Hd

I've noticed that some programmes can be watched in 3D on the HD channels.
Do you need special glasses that are compatible with your TV and where can you buy them?
I have a Panasonic TV.

You need a special 3D TV - some need glasses, some don't.

To be clear - you can't watch 3D TV on anything except a special set which has a 3D display built in. Most of these sets require you to use the special glasses provided by the set manufacturer to watch them, others produce a 3D picture without you needing to use glasses - in my opinion these are not as good at giving a true 3D effect.

Ordinary HD TVs will not display the 3D picture properly - with or without glasses.

Thanks Dave. With it saying the queens speech is to be shown on HD this year in 3D I thought anyone could watch it that had HD so long as they have the special glasses.

Yes I agree - that is the (I think very misleading) impression that is being given by some news reports - but proper 3D definitely needs a special 3D set.

I think Sky only have one, called Sky 3D.

Not sure who else has any 3D channels.

Yes, the relevant Sky dedicated 3D channel is indeed called Sky 3D as VHG says. It broadcasts on Sky Channel 217.

However, (and this is a pretty big however to my mind), the channel is only available to those who subscribe to Sky Entertainment Extra, Sky Movies, Sky Sports and the HD Pack and this little lot is currently £65.75 per month.

The unfairness of it all for those on a budget is that Sky 3D cannot be "bolted-on" as a single channel to any of the other packages for a set fee - you either pay the £65.75 per month or go without.

the BBC do occasional 3D broadcasts on their HD channels e.g. they showed some of the Olympics in 3D
