My wife has recently got an iPad; I bought myself an android tablet as a 'Christmas present'. We also have a laptop. She wondered - if all items are used on a home internet connection at a single time would/could the access speed to the web be reduced? I said I didn't think so, but I would ask the question. Thing is, she believes her iPad is taking longer to 'do anything' (her words) than it used to. So - if the number of users wouldn't make any difference, any ideas please?

Say you have a bandwidth of 8 Mbs. If 4 users are all downloading at the same time, that's gonna get shared out between all of you i.e 2 Mbs each.

The number of users per se wouldn't make a difference, but what they were doing would.

If all three devices (ipad, andriod and laptop) were say watching a video like BBC iPlayer at the same time it could indeed slow things down.

However for normal use I doubt anyone would notice the difference.

And only devices using the internet would have an effect, if the devices are off, or on but not doing aything on the internet then it would make no diference.

However I have noticed the internet has been a little slower over Xmas as I assume more people are at home and using their computers and other internet devices, so it is slowing the internet down for us all.

p.s. if your internet speed is very slow most of the time then multiple devices will make more of a differance than if it was a faster broadband. I have 60mbps with Virgin and it can cope with multiple devices because it is a fast broadband connection.

So - internet speed is not likely to be an issue. Slowness today could be a national problem. Just need to wait and see!!
