Why is it that, as a kid, beer tastes ******* horrible, yet as an adult, it tastes fantastic?

I always liked it cider too. However the same thing happened with tomatoes and mustard for me I love both of those now. I have heard that your aquired tastes change every 7 yrs probably total bollox but who knows!

i'm 48 and still detest the taste of beer,though i can drink a nice cold shandy, i like snowballs and also babysham.

seriously part of the reason is that we are born with loads more taste buds than we have as an adult which is one of the reasons that baby food tastes bland to adults. As the taste bud numbers diminish, we learn to appreciate stronger flavours although having said that, beer still tastes undrinkable to me!

i love the taste of alcohol. thats a real good point about taste buds diminishing, does anyone know if certain things kill them like smoking and "drinking heavily". I used to smoke 60 a day till about 4 yrs ago and I swear my taste changed totally. My aunt who smokes makes horrible horrible coffee but says mine is bland, now I know mine is good I can tell the difference by taste alone between beans.

Goodsoulette. I am not a crossdresser (well now you come to mention it, I always seem to be in trousers). I had a snowball at Christmas, something my mum always drank and it was gross.

As i remember, at 18 i still hated the taste of beer, i started off with bottles of bud which were a bit sweeter and gradually adapted to the taste.

I never drank beer for the flavor. Nevertheless after a six-pack or two it tastes just fine!
