New Years Day is not a Public Holiday, there is a Monday awarded nearest to the 1st January

2006 it is Jan 2nd but 2007 and 2008 it will actually be jan 1st

1974 the new bank Holiday actually was introduced/

Years ago my dad used be allowed to go into work one hour later on New Years Day to allow for New Years Eve.
