I have lots of spare time as I am retired but semi disabled.
I would like to do some volantary work from home if possible, maybe 20 hours a week for a hospital or a day centre to give something back.

Any suggestions?

The main problem you will find is that young able bodied people are applying for voluntary jobs, as a form of work experience, but have a go.
How about some admin work for a charity?

I used to volunteer on a day unit at a hospice and that wasn't as active as some of the other voluntary work I've done such as with the severely disabled and some other things. I used to help a lot with diversional therapy there.

I've also volunteered on projects with Women's Aid, deaf club, RWVS Contact Centre (supervising contact with children) and student tutoring a blond student, all of which weren't that physical either.
Argh.....blind, not blond!
I'm sure you meant Blond Jenna!!
Oh, and missed the from home bit too...I think I need an early night!

I'm sure I saw a Give an Hour thing somewhere about giving time to help others get on the internet, not sure if you can do that from home.

Would like to volunteer at a local library, they are asking for people. I worry that it may be cost cutting and so may be preventing someone getting a paid post.
:)
DaisyNonna, they will cut the staff anyway regardless of whether they get volunteers.
Daisy, could you not ask if you could set up some kind of book club there?

More difficult reading to children as I imagine you may need to be CRB checked or similar these days but maybe one for adults?

I used to work in the village library part time when I was at school/college. A lot of the books tend to be pretty old so you could always ask if you could organise some kind of book campaign to get people to donate books they don't want anymore to breathe some new life into the reading material.
do you have a local volunteer centre?
If you pop your postcode in here you might find something interesting.

Leave it set on "All interests" and see what comes up. Even if its not 100% suitable you might get some inspiration and be able to phone the organisations to offer your time to them.

Daisy, our council have closed some libraries down cutting costs.
bednobs, no.
Jenna, lots of book clubs here.
Reading to children is part of the job spec.
Not interested in organising a plea for books. Also already in place.
Thanks maidup
Local infant schools are usually crying out for volunteers to come in regularly to listen to children learning to read. Have you tried asking them?
Would probably be a liability. Ex teacher.
I don't know how restrictive your disability is, trt, but many charity shops are crying out for volunteers to do a few hours each week to help out.
Oxfam has an application form pages long.
