ford focus misfire

I have a misfire on my ford focus (38,000 miles) and the engine warning light comes on.

Any ideas as to what might be wrong?

Depends which 'engine warning light' you mean. Is it the oil light or the ignition light ? What colour is it ? The ignition light warns you when the ignition is on but the battery is not receiving a charge from the alternator. This could be because the engine has stopped, or something has gone wrong with the alernator or the wiring. If the oil light is lit, then you must stop the engine IMMEDIATELY - like the absolute SECOND it lilluminates. The light indicates no oil pressure and the engine will very quickly self-destruct without a good supply of oil. STOP the engine and then stop the car safely. Check the oil level. Too little oil is one cause for no oil pressure, but not the only one. Various problems can occur with the oil pump, regulator and filter circuit. If you intend driving the car anywhere at all with no oil pressure then you might as well go in the direction of the nearest scrapyard as that is all it is going to be good for.
