Mm Links Results January 2013 Week 1

Welcome back after the seasonal festivities.
Also, a warm welcome to new player tambourine - hope you enjoyed playing and see you again next weekend.
A tough challenge was set for you all by 'Queen Christiana' but you were up for it with all words eventually linked.
I can now reveal that her chosen links were:
BIG BROTHER
COMICSTRIP
WIDOW'S PEAK
TRAIN STATION
A low scoring game but we had two double-hitters so it couldn't have been that hard. See below for the details.

No best answer has yet been selected by gen2. Once a best answer has been selected, it will be shown here.
For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Almost straight away, Evsajo went for WIDOW'S PEAK immediately followed by patchett and shortly thereafter by grannydi - all for 2 points.
That same grannydi also visited the TRAIN STATION for another 2 points
Although there was a scattering of a few single points throughout the day, the remaining links proved particularly elusive until half an hour before midnight, Eiggam went into the house for BIG BROTHER and a well earned 2 points.
The final link of COMICSTRIP lasted nearly 24 hours but was enjoyed by BigMac on Sunday morning (possibly inspired by the Sunday papers?).
The second double-hitter was Handbaglady but unfortunately she was too late for a bonus on either of those. I therefore declare
**** HOTSHOT FOR ****
**** THIS WEEK IS ****
***** GRANNY-DI *****
** CONGRATULATIONS **
In summary, the points scored were:
4 grannydi
2 BigMac
2 Eiggam
2 evsajo
2 Handbaglady

1 baza
1 ChrisHewat (Mr)
1 kawakiri
Be back again next weekend for round two -

Christiana and gen2, I'm afraid 'comicstrip' is pushing the boat a bit too far as it is simply not one word, therefore it cannot be joined as such. To gain an 'award' it would have to qualify as a Comic's trip aka a trip made by a comedian! Thus, it cannot and should not count. I trust there are many MM & KM linkers out there who would agree with my logic!
Hi all - in danger of losing my legendary cheerfulness - apologies to those whom I upset with 'comics' trip' - It was actually meant as a plural, and a pun, as Manxiemo and I had so many comical moments on our trip, including the turnstyle incident mentioned in the preamble. Will try to avoid controversy next week.
To ChrisH and Alba.
Why introduce the apostrophe? It is simply the plural of 'comic'.
i.e the answer to what might be clued in a crossword as:
'Eagle, Beano, Dandy etc.(6)'
Remember the origin of this game was the Daily Telegraph GK Crosswords.
The rules are simply to find a word (in this case 'comics') which when combined, either before or after, with the challenge word makes a new word or commonly used phrase.
COMICS, when combined with TRIP = COMIC STRIP (a strip cartoon)
I'm sure we have had similar before.
Seekeerz may be able to confirm whether KM has had similar combinations.

Me again !! Please don't let's fall out about this. it's a bit of fun on a Saturday morning and OK this week one of the links was a bit suspect but in the great scheme of things it wasn't that bad and I am sure no one will ever do anything like it again, so let's all forget about it and look forward to next week's links. Don't lets start the New Year with disagreement.
Happy New Year Everyone, love Kay xxx
