I use it as a base for the occasional bonfire as with all that air they burn much better than when in a lump.
Oh, they're supposed to be good for hamster cages too. With or without the addition of hamster poo, shredded paper composts well - put it in layers between garden and kitchen waste. So the answer to your question is neither rubbish bin or recycle bin but compost bin.
be careful using it as pet bedding, especially for animals who might eat or chew some of it as some inks can be toxic
Ferret bedding, then out with the weekly rubbish covered in rabbit and ferret doos.
My horse is bedded on shredded paper which I buy in bales.  However, I also nab the shredded paper from the offices at work and mix that in too!

Thanks all. I have only just aquired a shredder, and normally I would compost the paper, but I have stopped composting for the moment because I am trying to sell my house.
Hi I know this was posted a little while back, but I've just come across it. Shredded paper should NOT be put into the green recycleable bins as apparently it tends to clog up the paper processor, only large pieces get fed through safely!
