I am a bit of a duffer about this stuff so be kind....I have some CD Roms that I need to install but you have to have Windows to run them and I have a Mac running OS X - can you get Windows for the Mac or is there nothing I can do but use someone else's PC?

Look up Virtual PC.
As wideboy says look into Virtual PC, but it's not cheap and if you have an older Mac it might not be powerfull enough to run it
if you really need those programs, there may be mac versions of the programs you are after.

you can't use them on a mac, because windows-based pcs use x86 processors (intel ones, etc.), and macs (currently) use powerPC chips. the two are different, so its like trying to speak English to the Japanese: its not gonna work.

some programs, however, come on hybrid CDs that contain both the mac and windows data. see if your CDs are of that kind.
