Mr Puss has recieved a letter to attend service at a future date.
He doesnt want to do this for health reasons mainly.
He has palpations and is on medication, and also has problems with concentration as the doctor has noticed too.

You are qualified to attend if you are over 18 and under 70.(quoted).
Mr Puss was 70 last April.

is this enough to not attend to do this service. He hates the thought of it and hopes to be released from it. Any help please?

He will need a note from his GP I think.
Agree with Ratters, a visit to his GP sounds the order of the day.
Why the need for a trip to the GP? If he's over 70 then just put that on the form you've received and send it back.
Yep, ask the GP to write to the court (the GP may charge but under the circs, it would be worth it)
Are you in the UK? if he's over 70 now, then I think if he contacts the Jury Central Summoning bureau and says he doesn't want to do it he can be excused.
Civil or Criminal case?
There is no upper age limit for serving on a jury for a criminal case, but you can be excused from jury service if you are 71 years of age or older and you do not want to serve on a jury.

Civil - between 18 and 65 years of age.

Zacs, it says if you are over 70 on our letter.

Many many thanks for all the very helpfull information abers x
I agree with what has been said. In fact anyone over the age of 65 are allowed to claim refusal as of right, your occupation may also make you ineligible to serve on a jury. It is now quite unusual to have a jury in a civil case, prior to 1854 all cases in common law were heard by a judge sitting with a jury and the right to a jury in civil cases is now limited. Excusal is covered by S9 of the Juries act 1974, as amended.

Yeee, Mr Puss has just rang up and inquired, and straight away he was let off the hook after stating that he was 70 last April !!!
He will just put his date of birth on the letter and hey presto, the threat has gone. So so happy right now. Thanks Abers x

(no birth cert needed)
I suffer from panic attacks and I went to my GP who agreed with me that jury service would not be a good idea after I got a letter being called up. It will be fine.
Question Author
It was so simple cancelling the jury service. Cant believe really.
Just one quick phone call and mentioned his date of birth and its all done and dusted. we are so relieved now x Cheers abers
