Perhaps the current news is just a ploy to get us all used to eating horse mince. I've had ostrich mince and to be honest, I couldn't tell the difference from beef mince.
I get my mince, steaks, casserole dice and brisket from Donald Russell. I usually grt free delivery, you can pick what day you want it delivered, and it's always beautifully packaged. At least you know what you're eating IS beef. It's expensive but there's never any waste, and tastes like meat should.
If you've got a Lidl's near you, their mince is just £2...lean mince is just a bit more. I use the cheaper one-and have not had better burgers in years-it's actually got flavour! And do try your local butchers-it will always be better quality than the supermarkets.
The 'value' mince, that supermarkets sell, is just as good in a spag-bol as any of the expensive stuff. For example, Asda's Smart Price Beef & Pork Mince is just £1.46 for 500g, which is less than a third of what you paid, Tilly2!

I agree, I just drain all the water and fat off and fry the mince until nicely browned to give it more taste. Some value mince is better than others though.
I would rather eat less meat than buy any meat product labelled 'value'.
I buy all my meat from my local butcher, from the price comparisons he is no more expensive than the supermarket and I can see my butcher cutting the meat for me.
