Surely not! Me starting a thread on a NUMERICAL.

What fun to have a numerical with an endgame. Of course, we can't thank Ruslan but this was nowhere near as tedious and horrible as numericals usually are (at least for some of us!)

I believe jim360 will be sitting at a different desk with his University Challenge team on the 25th of the month - just an early reminder. His Cambridge team is due for at least two more appearances in the quarter finals.
Final stage solved with a little help from my friends. Dog returned at 1.30 a.m. looking very pleased with himself, I suspect full of desiccated rabbit corpses.
Himself re-added and finished with no problems, Contendo's got his dog back, there is a cloudless blue sky here - all seems well with the world.
Thanks for the plug, Ruth! Tough match ahead against New College, Oxford, who have looked very impressive so far. Still, matches are hardly going to get easier...

In other news, today's EV is well worth a look, if I say so myself. Written by yours truly...

Totally agree about Jaguar's EV (his first) and thoroughly recommend it.
olichant ... regarding the highlighting ... think what Cleopatra might do when needled by a clue.

Who might she turn to?
Alekhine, thank you! That raised a groan.

Jim, I have bought the Sunday Telegraph in your honour.
Hah! Thanks oli, hope you enjoy the EV and the rest of the paper.
At one point, when I was adding "the wrong numbers", I found what I thought was the same number in a column and a row, they formed a 'plus' sign. So I thought 'plus', that's 'add', so I'm looking for 'adder'. Well, there you go or rather don't go!
123-and-ABC - yes, that was asping for trouble.
I am just at the stage of working out the end game, having come to this one late. I need to re-read the instructions as, like someone else, I only have 3 of what I thought was the correct digit, but I'm satisfied with my grid and total, although I did find it difficult to concentrate on using the answers rather than grid entries to solve subsequent clues.
Teuchter2 - it is in the instructions, I assure you! On another note, for anyone interested in ancient Egyptian mathematics, I would recommend "Mathematics In The Time Of The Pharaohs" by Richard J Gillings ISBN 0-486-24315-X. I bought my copy 20 years ago. It provides a fascinating insight into how an ancient civilisation used some very clever mathematical tools that are quite different from modern methods.
Would someone please be kind enough to explain which cells are to be highlighted as it is a complete mystery to me. If necessary you can email me: [email protected] Thanks.
How obtuse can I get? I finally worked it out, without any hints, so I'm pleased about that!
