Changed my mind - going skiing now! Never been before and have a few questions:

1) all the crazy cheap prices are for january, will this be the same in 4 weeks time for Feb?

2) Don't want a really busy / hardcore resort. It wouuld be nice to go somewhere where we can go for a few walks and maybe just do a bit of skiing. Its a romantic break so no heavy nightlife!

3)Best time to go to get good snow without being frozen?

4)where?

Thanks friends!!

School half terms in February will bump prices up.

In terms of prices it is really hard to judge. You can get crazy deals in Jan/Feb/Mar or get nothing at all, it really depends on how well things are selling. Best bet is to talk to a good travel agent who is prepared to spend time having a good search round for you (ask an agent to help you who goes skiing). There are loads of resorts that suit what you are after in Europe (nice setting, good walks and ideal for beginners, I personally would suggest France, Austria or Switzerland), grab some brochures they give you loads on detail on those sorts of things, people are generally quite selective about their ski resorts, so they are used too such requests! To ensure you get snow its best not to go too late in the season and go for resorts at higher altitude or with glaciers, however make sure they have plenty of green/blue runs suitable for beginners. In terms of temperature thats in the lap of the gods in afraid, Europe can be really warm (I had 25deg C last year in France) or very cold (currently -30degC on some slopes in Europe). In addition Canada has everything you are looking for but can cost more than europe and is much more likely to be very cold! Don't forget to look at ski school options if you want to talk lessons. skiclub and ski travel company websites can give you loads of info on deals, weather, ski schools and the resorts that suit you.
