Windows 8 : Downloads

Am plodding on and getting there with Win 8, but can someone please tell me how I can find My Downloads? Am fed up with having to go to the tiles and typing it in search, there must be a quicker way, thank you.

I have had the same problem on Windows 8 so would like to know the quickest way as well.

This is how I do it, but it is a bit long winded.

On the page with all the tiles select Desktop.

On the desktop move the mouse cursor down to the bottom left.

RIGHT click and you get a "grey" menu with about 15 options on it - "Programs and Features", "Power Options" and so on.

Select "File Explorer" and you get a window called "Computer".

Near the top you see the word Computer with an "up" arrow next to it.

Select on the Up arrow and you see lots of folders, one of them your name.

Select on your name and you see all your folders like My Documents, My Pictures and Downloads.

p.s. I have also noticed on the "Computer" window, on the left, there is a "Favorites" field. On my computer there is a "Downloads" option so I can select that. But note that Downloads may only appear on the list AFTER you have visited it for the first time.

You can also get to this "Computer" window as follows.

On the "large tile" window RIGHT click on a blank area and a bar apears on the bottom of the screen with "All apps" in it.

Select on "All apps" and you get loads of little "tiles".

One of these is "Computer".

Select on this and you can navigate to your Downloads folder as I showed above.

Note you can also select the "File Explorer" icon from the page of small tiles and navigate to Downloads from there as well.

I cant believe either of my examples are the "best" way to do it, but it is the best I have discovered, even if they are a bit messy.

Do you go there regularly?

Here's one option:

1. Open File Explorer
2. Look in the left hand panel, can you see Downloads?
3. Right click it
4. On this drop-out menu click "Pin To Start"

The folder should now be on your start tile screen, so you can just click it any time you want to open it from there.

Any good?

I think I have found a better way.

Go to the Desktop

RIGHT click on a blank area and select Personalise. The Personalisation window is displayed.

Select "Change desktop icons" in the top left. The "Desktop Icons Settings" window is displayed.

In the little boxes at the top select "User's files" with a tick.

Press ok and close all windows.

Now an icon is added to the desktop with your name.

Double click on this folder and you get all your personal folders (My Documents, My Pictures, Downloads etc).

This icon will now stay on your desktop.

I have Windows Explorer pinned to my taskbar - very quick to access My Downloads or any other files.

A slightly quicker method to create a Desktop shortcut:

In File Explorer right-click a favorite folder or document, choose 'Send To', and select the 'Desktop (Create Shortcut)' option. The shortcut appears on your desktop.

Madre mia, wished I'd never mentioned it, being as mine is all in SPanish I can't even find the file explorer or computer??? So have searched for it as usual, and now have made a desktop shortcut as it seems the only way for me at the moment. The rason I need it everyday is cos I download English TV with a bit.torrent and then for some reason it goes off into descargas (downloads) and I need to find it to watch it, I wish I had never ever had this Windows 8! I hate it!

But thank you all, and I will try all the ways in future.

Haven't you got an icon that looks like a yellow lego brick in your task bar, bottom right?

Wouldn't changing the language to English instead of leaving it in Spanish be a first step? It's achieved via Control Panel.

I have changed the language but unfortuanely it hasn't changed the computer bit at all, only other progs.

I do not even have a taskbar!

and changing the language changes the keyboard and it doesn't work as it should, things are not where they should be.

All those things on desktop are in English ie Yahoo, google messaging, but the things that pop up at the side are all in Spanish.

Right on win 8 now, nothing that looks like yellow lego but have found Explorador de archivos which is what ABEd was saying and yes it is there, but have found it far easier by far to make a desktop shortcut so will stick to it for the mo, thanks all.
