I have a friend coming for lunch on Tuesday who loves my soup. I have now exhausted my repertoire and need new ideas. So far I have done:
Smoked haddock chowder
Vegetable
Mushroom
Onion
Broccoli & stilton
Cauliflower & cheese
Sweet potato & coconut
Leek & potato
Carrot & coriander
Crab & sweetcorn
Parsnip & ginger

There are probably others I can't think of right now.
NOTHING too spicy as a suggestion please

sweet potato and lime

per person
1 medium sweet potato
half a veg stock cube or a pot of the jellied veg stock
juice of half a lime
a little oil or butter
boiling water, around half to three quarters of a pint.

peel and cube the sweet potato (1cm ish cubes) sweat gently in the oil. Add the water and stock cube or jelly and simmer till soft (5 to 10 mins) sieve or liquidise and check the seasoning. Add the lime juice and serve.

My 'sweet tattie & roasted garlic with stuff' soup recipie:

Some sweet tatties - 3 or 4, depends on size.
2 whole garlic wrapped in foil and roasted for 10 mins (200 degrees on my oven)
3 red chillis - I'm hardcore so with seeds.
Tablespoon ground corriander seeds
teaspoon cumin
Bit of allspice
Some ginger - 2-3cm in size I guess
1 big onion - chopped.
1 big courgette - peeled & grated
1 big carrot - peeled and grated
1 litre chicken stock - I cheat and use knor.
Bit of oil - half a tablespoon if that.

Wrap garlic in foil (cut the tops off first) and roast for 10 mins - leave til cool enough to handle.
Heat oil and add onion, grated carrot & courgette, heat for 5 mins.
Add chilli, ginger, coriander seeds, cumin, allspice and heat for 4 mins.
Add chicken stock & sweet tatties, simmer sweet tatties to cook in stock until soft.
Squeeze pulp of garlic in to soup.
Blitz until nice & thick.

I know you said your mate doesn't like spicey but ^^^ this started out as just sweet tattie & garlic soup that I found in my soup book so you can just remove the spicey element as I only added as I felt the soup needed 'more of something'.
Tomato and bacon.
Push the contents of a couple of tins of tomatoes through a coarse sieve, or use passata, and add very finely chopped onion and smallish chunks of bacon. taste - if you want more flavour, add a veg stock cube.
Float a swirl of cream on each dishful before serving.
Celery or celeriac and Stilton
I made curried parsnip and apple soup today...you can leave out the spices.
Red lentil and cumin soup
Butterbean soup with crispy pancetta
Pea and mint
Asparagus
beetroot soup, (some onion sautéed off first)....

big dollop fresh cream and crusty bread
I had a gorgeous thai chicken soup from Tesco, it was like a green thai curry kind of soup so more creamy and coconutty than spicy.

I love chinese style chicken and sweetcorn soup.
Why not try 'one soup and another soup? (Feel another mark in your book coming up!)
