I was led to believe that the Queen couldn't visit any country unless it was in the commonwealth. Now, I see she's cancelling her visit to Rome. So was I wrong or have things changed?

I think that any Government can invite the queen on a state visit, but will stand corrected.
not sure it answers your question but she has certainly visited many countries

She's in hospital coccinelle
The Queen has visited Rome before, she has alo visited America, so I think you are definitely wrong.
She can go wherever she wants, and she doesn't have a passport........
I don't know about the Commonwealth, but I got a call from BP this morning to see if we could receive HRH for a cuppa next monday. Unfortunately I had to polite refuse as Mrs.WW and I would be busy at that time, entertaining Joseph Ratzinger who would be calling in on his way to his holiday house.
All credible, Wildwood, except that cuppa is a word invented by advertisers of tea and not used in everyday speech. But do give Ratzi my love.
Tut, tut, WW. The BBC were given a slap on the wrist for incorrectly referring to HM as HRH during commentary on the Royal Regatta. As to visiting only Commonwealth countries, far from it!...

She been just about every where many non C countries, surely you've seen her visiting many different places. She went to Russia in 1994!
