Remember back in the eighties, when the miners were on strike and facing job losses, pit closures etc? We saw teenage toffs from the public schools holding pi$$-taking parties aimed at the miners. Where are these toffs now? In the government, some of them I'd guess. So don't be surprised if IDS is one of them.

I was there, I never saw teenage toffs holding those parties - where were they?
IDS stopped being a teenager in 1974........
I'd have happily attended such a party but I don't recall any invitations!

I believe IDS is famous for having the contents of a bucket of pis dropped over him from a great height while he serving as a Guards Officer in Derry.
I was at work in industry in the Midlands, suffering the three day week.

where were these parties?
No, I'm with boxy.....I never saw any p1ss taking party of toffs.

The now members of the Labour party were then at Public School or University.
He wouldn't have been a teenage toff at a public school, though, would he?
I'm sure they would have been reported in the papers of the time - I never heard of this happening.
Do you have any links please?
I expect there was one party, I wasn't invited either
I also don't remember any toff pi$$ taking parties being reported.
If anyone's interested in where the miners might be, my Dad's in a residential care home ans suffers from pneumoconiosis, paranoia and psychosis. Just thought you'd like the other side of the story.
I'm sorry. I seem to have killed this thread. That wasn't my intention.
No, you haven't killed - I have only just seen it Tilly. If your father worked down the mines then no wonder he is now suffering. I reckon that must be one of the worst jobs in the world.

he's retired now, but only just - MP since the 1980s and a minister in the Blair government, dr kim howells was working for the NUM in south Wales during the strike.
"a minister in the Blair government, dr kim howells was working for the NUM in south Wales during the strike."

Work which included destroying NUM documents after learning of the death of a taxi driver by the actions of two striking miners.
