My sister has just rung and broken down in tears and had to put the phone down...in the last week she has had to have her cat put down -at the age of 15 -and today she's had to have her horse put down - age 20 -she has no children -these animals are her life and she said its like losing 2 children within a week - I really don't know if I should call her back or wait until she calls me -i could send her a text/email but what can you say? -everything I've though of just sounds like a cliche....

Go and give her a hug.

I can't -she lives 300 miles away....
Aww. Then I would call her back. It doesn't matter if it's cliches. She'll be glad you care.
call her back, commiserate & gently suggest replacements. Lots of horses need new homes, especially with experienced keepers.
I'd phone her as mojo says. If she can't talk, then send her a text filled with hugs and email her.
The poor soul, she'll be lost an empty for a long time :-(
*and
call her back and just let her know care. she'll be heartbroken at the mo

called her back and left a message on her phone -its all very raw so will wait until she's come to terms with what has happened - both deaths were unexpected and I have yet to find out how her horse died as she was riding him last week he seemed in good health but if it was colic then that comes on very quickly - thankyou for the replies.
Oh dear so sad..
Oh, that is so sad to hear. Wish there were words to help ease her pain. I'm sure that knowing you care will be a big help. x
I'd be inclined to text her to say how sorry you are for her loss and let her know when she's ready to talk, you'll be waiting.

My mother lost both her dogs last year. It was heartbreaking for her.
Id phone her to say how sorry i was to hear the sad news of the two deaths and let her know that i was on the end of a phone whenever she wants to talk. Shes had a terrible shock.
Aww thats so sad for your sister, to lose both animals in a week but be heart-breaking x
