I have approx 8000 in high interest debts and am only earning 500 per month currently...I also owe even more to family and my partner. I have considered going bankrupt but cannot afford the fees obviously, and am worried I would not be able to rent property in the future which I will need to do. I was with Gregory Pennington debt management who charged me 200 deposit and 15% "management" fee per month, which resulted in still endless calls from my creditors and payments which were not even covering the interest added to my accounts. So I ditched them. I do not owe enough to make an IVA. I have heard of debt management companies who do not charge extra and can get a lot of your debts written off, whilst you pay the rest off at a reduced monthly fee. Has anyone experienced this?

I forgot to add...I have been turned down for many debt consolidation loans as my credit rating is so poor. I have no assets - do not own a home, only have a cheap scooter to get me to work and back.

Why dont you try ringing the CCCS we were with them for a while they dont charge and they handle everything for you. You do a debt managment plan and agree a monthly payment . You then pay this to them at beginning of month and they pay the people you owe money to.

They are also really nice when you call them.

CCCS is the consumer credit counselling service or something like that.

Good luck

I have to agree with Topsie. I used the CCCS and my debts were way more than yours. They were really helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. They are always there to fight your corner and don't take any nonsense from your debtors. Also, as they are a non-profit making organisation, your debtors are more likely to work with them, than with firms that charge for their services. After all, your debtors will tell you that all the while you're paying a fee to a firm, that money could be going towards paying off your debts.

Here's a link to their website, which I hope you'll find useful. Good luck.

Did I say debtors? I meant creditors of course. Sorry. :-)

Here's a very useful forum that has many tips and advice
http://www.debtquestions.co.uk/debt_forum/
but from what I gather both CCCS and Payplan appear to be highly recommended.

I'm a member on the above forum and it's a superb site for advice.....everyone has been there and done it and will not judge you....give it a go.
