Video Downloading Question

On my old laptop I had some software that would allow me to save films as they downloaded! That laptop has gone now, but its replacement doesnt seem to have that facility! I cant remember what it was called only that I could right click and save whatever I was watching to a folder. Thanks for any help on this.
