More Ram Required On My Pc?

I am currently experiencing problems with my PC viz:
"page not responding"
"cannot find page"
"server cannot be found"
I have visited my local computer shop and because my Pc is approx.5 years old--it is certainly ready for an "MOT"
They said that they would install some extra RAM at the same time.
Until I do take it in---would all websites that I visit have less chance of freezing if I deleted the little row of black spots that the PC has remembered as my password, and put the passwords in myself {saving on memory}

Cut electrics to modem for 30mins, improve performance

What OS, XP, Windows 7/8 which ?

Sounds like a comms problem to me. What do you have for comms - cable, DSL or dial-up? The latter will not work too well these days.
I have an 11 year old desktop running XP with 1 GB RAM - often faster than my 4GB laptop running win 7! Have you done all the usual 'cleaning' - e.g. Disk Cleanup, Defrag?

Download CCleaner ( formerly known as CrapCleaner) from http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner and give the pc a good clearout. Then a defrag. You should notice a big difference.

I do give a C-Oleaner about every 2 weeks
Talk Talk include "home safe" in my broadband package.
I will take in to local shop for an MOT

Format the hard drive, do a clean install and see your PC wake up again!!

Start>Help & Support>System Restore. Choose a date when your pc worked for you.

Which ISP are you on ? I prefer Mozilla Firefox to IE.

delete your history & cookies at Tools >Options>Privacy (to clear any virus)

Tambo, I dont think that process will solve many virus issues.

Ratter, far be it for me to correct you but I would try everything/anything before a format that may necessitate downloading drivers etc.

Lol tambo, you may be right, its the way I go as it is usually guaranteed to sort out any problem and gives the PC a big boost. I like the clean start! I done mine a few days ago as well.

fine Ratter if you have backup discs etc. Virus attack too often for formatting.

I will only format when I have tried everything else, sometimes formatting is the easiest option, finding these problems can often take weeks and a lot of money, a format only takes a few hours and is usually free if you can do it yourself. Yes it is a good idea to keep all discs relative to your PC, every programme on my PC has the discs to reinstall kept safe and all in one folder.

tamborine, you know absolutely nothing about computers, I really wish you would stop giving 'advice' on this topic!

kenny1234, there would be no downside to getting some new RAM installed as long as your PC can support it. To check if it can you could go to http://www.crucial.com/uk/ and do a scan of your system (perfectly safe), click the 'system scanner' link to get started.
The scanner will tell you what is already installed and what the computer can support, it also gives you the option of buying the RAM chips from them (very reliable, have used them myself) if you feel confident in fitting new RAM yourself.

Like Daffy said, the more RAM the better, if that doesnt improve the situation I would look into a format but seek advice on this first, it can be a bit scary!
