I have a married couple Thomas Litherland b1829 Rothwell Leeds a photographer, married to Ann Robson (b1830 d1883) in Hunslet Leeds abt 1849. But I cannot find his father and mother. I have nowhere to put him.
My Gt x4 Grandfather George born 1754 wife Mary, and the Gt x3 born 1784 called George also married to Mary, He had a son George b1808. But I can't find him. Most of the family at that time was born in Tamworth and came to live in Leeds but don't know when. Possibly Thomas's father's name is George Litherland (of 1808?) Can anyone help please.

I saw an entry in Pigots Trade Directory for Leeds 1834 which show George Litherland and Son, cut nail manufacturers, Union Place Leeds, I presume the #son will be my gt gt gt gf John who was in Leeds in 1835. There seems to be no trace of his brother George of 1808 who I was pinning Thomas to in the first place. Wouldn't have found out about them at all. Grateful thanks.
ooooooo this is good, bit of digging and i've found mary litherland in leeds, the mother of sarah hepworth -dovener nee litherland. On the 1851 sarah is living at waterloo place leeds with her daughter ADA born leeds 1843, son walter john for 1847 wolverhampton and mother mary 'titterland' aged 70 (born 1781) tamworth, staffs. mary's marital status is 'Mar' i.e. married but george is not there, probably because he's shacked up with hannah!
oh here;s another one, John Litherland married Hannah Dodsworth 4 Jan 1835, leeds st peter, john's occupation was a nail cutter (pre-civil reg entry and so no father) but a witness was William Hepworth, who married John's sister sarah 2 years later, on the 1841 census i think william hepworth is a nailcutter too actually but it's not easy to read. so that means the litherland family were in leeds at least by 1835.
What a find dotty! The last George mentioned b 1754 was the father of dirty George 1784 who was bonking Hannah Learoyd. George 1754 was married to Mary Richardson, Timothy b 41 was his brother.Their son George (Leeds) was married to poor Mary Capewell b abt 1786. John Litherland was George's legal son born in Tamworth he married Hannah Dodsworth who died, then he met Ruth Guest nee Osborn, she had been married before to John Henry Guest who died, they had a daughter Maria. John had a daughter Elizabeth from his marriage to Hannah. John and Ruth Osborn are my Gt gt gt Grandparents. Another Timothy b 1795 was George's (the old goats) brother, I don't have anything on him at all, poss married to Hannah Stockley in 1799 but not sure. Thanks for the info about Sarah too, I knew she married twice but not about the dates or the children and her mother living there.
think timothy died in 1869 in lichfield, he married elizabeth wagstaff 19th oct 1818 at polesworth, and they had jane 1819 and john 1824, then several others including a second john, the first boy died in anfancy, his mother mary (richardson) died 1818. george litherland born 1754 was the son of william litherland 1717-1779.
As far as I know John and Ruth must have been in Wolverhampton at some point. My gt Grandfather Alfred was born in wolverhampton in 1852, there were six of them, Frank b 1853 was born in Wolverhampton and married Harriet Ann Hill in 1874 Leeds but he disappeared off the radar, don't know when he died, Harriet married Moses Rhodes (her lodger) abt 1889? and her two children by Frank took Moses Rhodes surname not sure about the third child William Henry b 1881. A distant cousin contacted me to find out about this as she was called Rhodes, she didnt know she was a Litherland until she saw her great Grandfathers birth certificate. She said her brothers would be a bit shocked to find this out. John Osborn Litherland is a mystery b 1850 died 1917 possible a war casualty I haven't looked for him. He is the son of John and Ruth too. Sorry I'm running, on I find this very interesting. Thanks dotty.
