My Dog Killed Another Dog
I adopted a 7 year old German Shepherd about 4 months ago where she used to live on a farm. Yesterday on a walk with my friend and his dog she randomly attacked another little terrier dog and killed it (according to my mate, not 100%) and its been on my mind ever since but worst case scenario what can happen? My mate said the dogs leg was hanging off despite me puttin my hands in my dogs jaw to seperate them and all i seen was deep teeth wounds with some blood. He also said the vet bill was £2000 which leads me to believe hes not telling the truth. My dog has never attacked a dog before and i dont know what made her tick. It also confuses me that my dog was completely fine around my mates dog.
Also, whilst trying to seperate the dogs, the terrier turnt around and bit my knee and i needed a new tetanus injection.
By law, where do i stand?

As I read it from bits and pieces... you were out walking with your dog and so was your friend with his dog. Your dog has been friendly to your friend's dog. Then your dog attacked the terrier and caused serious injury.
If this is correct, you are totally responsible for the Vet's bill and $2k is not excessive with serious damage like 'a leg hanging off'. Beside the tooth marsk you saw, there was no doubt internal damage.
That the terrier bit your knee in these circumstances is not a redeeming sign but rather that the poor beastie was completely terrified. You get no brownie points for that.
I hope that when all this is settled, your dog has not been put down.

The owner could sue. You are very likely to have the dog taken away and destroyed. Once a dog does this it is no longer trustworthy. But if you are not sure it is true then you need to have your dog examined by a vet for evidence of it having been in a fight. Plus seek witnesses. It is very sad if a poor little dog died,
If you dog bit another dog and you that dogs NEEDS to be put down if you like it or not or feel like its wrong. And I'm a dog owner. What about if it was a child???!
They should go through the insurance then you'll will get a official receipt saying exactly what was done and the cost.
At the end of the day your dog can be violent and needs to be put down!!
