I've got my first ever garden and haven't a clue. Had lawn (about 40ft x 40ft) cut twice by gardener but a bit unreliable, so going to get a mower and was thinking of this one.

ZM, yes I read the reviews and thought them mostly favourable. Don't you think so? DTC, petrol sounds too complicated for a non-driver. Love the idea of the sheep, but perhaps not suitable in an urban environment. I was hoping for tried and tested alternatives of an electric type. I waste so much money with my "try it and see" method, so thought I'd seek advice on this one.
I didn't read them. But I did think 37 opinions was probably enough to make ones mind up on.
well as long as you are not going to cut through the trailing cable, ott, go for it.
Don't discount electric mowers. They've been around since the early 1950s, when the Hayn mower came on the market. They must be quite safe after 60 years ! They have the advantage, for a small garden, of being very quiet as well as being easy to start; an on- off switch can be managed by the least technical; and not requiring petrol cans, and fuel to be bought elsewhere

Ah, thank you. I'll read them again before I make up my mind.
How much?!?

I wouldn't pay a three figure sum.
Even if you insist on that one, it's cheaper on Amazon.

over the years I have had electric push and hover mowers which burnt out after a couple or so years, I am now on my second petrol ( cheap) push along mower, paid about £100.00 from Homebase, the previous mower lasted 7 yrs and only went wrong because someone forgot to check the oil before use.
I've had a Flymo electric which burnt out after a few years, and a similar experience with a Black and Decker - I've now got a Bosch which has lasted considerably longer (at least 10 years) and is still operational.

I have the predecessor to this Flymo, bought in 1994 and it's still going strong. I've only ever had to sharpen the blade. I have cut through the cable two or three times over the years though!

Another good thing about Flymos is that they're made in the UK. With our economy the way it is I'm trying to buy British stuff as much as possible.

Also a good, reliable UK supplier (i.e. that pays its taxes here in the UK) that supplied a mower to my in-laws is selling this lawnmower at £144 including free next day delivery, so you could have it delivered to your door before this Bank Holiday weekend ...

Thank you everybody. Petrol was not an option for me. Have gone with a combination of other suggestions: cordless Bosch from Gardenlines. Being delivered tomorrow.
