Sun 20/03/05 night scented stock is simple to grow and gives a lovely scent, especially in the evening and after rain.

Mon 21/03/05 Like you, I adore scents in a garden - Honeysuckle is great if you have somewhere for it to climb, the natural british hedgerow varieties have the best scent. They are great climbing through hedges and other shrubs. Do you have room for shrubs and climbers because there are some amazing scented varieties?
The old fashioned varieties of roses have the best scent - most garden centres will advise you. I will have to try 'super star' auldyin
Try some herbs grown in containers near to your kitchen window or back door. Rosemary and Thyme smell great, as do lemon verbena and a lot of the mints.
Good luck with your new hobby. I certainly find it very relaxing - as long as someone else does the heavy work!

Mon 21/03/05 It's hard to know where to begin, so many plants have lovely fragrances. As well as herbs FP has mentioned my favourite - honeysuckle. My winter honeysuckle has been in flower now for 3 months & on a crisp winter's day it has the most wonderful & welcome scent. Nicotiana, the taller varieties (tobacco plant) & hesperis (sweet rocket) are lovely & easily grown from seed. And don't forget lillies which can be planted in a container.

There are 12 pages of scented plants(!) & if you click on the name you'll get planting details etc. Have a go, I (& many others) never imagined that I would become the keen gardener that I am now!
