Failing that extra socks or just wearing them for a short period everyday. I found the ones with welted leather were much better but they only do them in black. I now wear a pair of Dickies which I got from a builders merchant for a bargain 39 which are excellent and the soles last longer. No VAT on safety boots.
I have been faced with the new boot isue many times over the years. The key thing to remember is, you have to break them in gradually!, a day on day off sometimes worked for me but other times, a couple of hours at a time was enough to start with.
you can also make this easier by putting plenty of wax on over night to make them supple ie Nikwax..
At work if a customer says boots are tight around the heel we suggest rubbing vaseline into the leather on the outside, but on the inside it isn't usually leather, check what the lining is before you try to put any leather softener on. There should be a materials key stuck to the boot telling u the 3 materials that make up the sole, outer and inner of the boot.
