I remember the skateboard craze hitting the UK in 1977, but years prior to this we kids used to sit on a hardback annual (usually Beano or Dandy) placed on top of a rollerskate and would roll downhill.  Steering this contraption resulted in the removal of all skin from the knuckles as you gripped the edges of the book.  What fun!
