Think we're all interested in their kids?

Chatting to a guy a work today he must have spent at least an hour in total telling me about his 16 year old daughter. But really mundane things, like I know what position she played in her last 5 hockey matches. Then he tops it off with saying, Ooohh let me show you a picture of her. So he spends 10 minutes roucking through his emails to find one.

Not only is this boring but it makes it incredibly awkward for me when I see a picture of a rather chunky, not overly attractive girl on the screen. What's he expecting me to say? I'm not going to lie am I. I believe my response was 'ohh, right'.

This is just one example of many. I understand people being proud of their kids but it unless its a gorgeous little baby (and even that's pushing it) im not that interested. surely I can't be the only one who just doesn't give a monkeys about other people's kids. Am I?

Evian...couldn't agree more.....they drive me mad going on about, mainly, spoilt little brats as ugly as hell who you know have little chance of getting anywhere in life......judging by the overbearing parents.

I feel the same way about peoples pets, I really am not interested in your dog/cat/hamster/goldfish and really do not need to see 5 albums of photos of them in various poses.
Eric's racist, he's been beating up the black and the black and white cats.
My cats hate everything and everyone, including me lol!
Because of course everybody wants to know all about our kids, our kids are the best thing on earth, no other kid has ever been born, how can you get bored with us telling you about them ;-)
Talking of work Evian, hows the new job going? Any hotties there?

I'm sure if I had my own kids one day I wouldn't be forced to eat my words here... ;)

Sillimillie - it got off to a slow start but it's going well now thanks! A few hotties but most are either married or they're engineers who I hardly ever see. Might have to arrange some more in house training days ;) thanks for asking :)
I think when you spend all your time with a baby you have nothing else to talk about.
Oh come on guys, I did looked so cute as a baby, and then I grew up and went grey!!

That's probably true ummmm but that doesn't excuse the people like in my op.

Lol Ratter, that does look like you!
"rather chunky and not overly attractive girl" in your opinion. no wonder kids top themselves through lack of confidence!
Huh? That's a bit dramatic, don't you think? I'm sure Evian wouldn't sit a child down and tell them how ugly they are!!!!
Parents are bad enough, but grandparents can be worse.........we have all witnessed on AB the pregnancy history of some ABers offspring.....month by month, then week by week and in the final trimester even day by day. Thankfully we have yet to see a video of the birth, but that will soon be appearing. Photographs of a baby ( which could be any baby) soon appear and these are from people that you have never met or seen most of the time.

Coupled with the stork in the front garden with the placard " Tarquin arrived yesterday weighing 6 lbs"

Give us a break...
I don't see the problem. I like looking at pictures of my friends kids. It's the constant talking about them that becomes boring.

Lol Gina, nothing like a bit of over dramatics to get you going on a Saturday morning is there.

Aahh Sqad, how I love your grumpy ways. I don't really mind the announcements, I'm a woman, I love babies. But I am adverse to people banging on about it like its the only baby to have ever been born. Lol @ the suggestion of birthing videos, but I'm worried you may have inspired some to actually do that now ;)
I agree with ummm's last comment, I found when my children were younger there was a whole competitive thing going on in mother and baby groups/nurseries where mothers would almost compete with who ate food first, who sat up first, who started walking ect ect, needless to say the majority would tell me their child is very advanced for their age.

I found that element quite dull and unnecessary, I enjoy talking with other parents about our kids, but obviously if that was all we ever talked about I would find that a bit dull
Question Author
Caz, I see that a lot through Facebook. They even seem to be in completion about who's child is most poorly.

"Little billy puked up this morning"
"Poor billy, but my little bobby threw up four times"
"Hope bobby and billy are ok. My baby threw up 6000 times, he grew 6 extra limbs and his head span around a full 360".

It's odd.
Yeah...but at what age did they start walking?
Question Author
None of them can walk, they're still just foetus'. That's how bad it's got ummm! ;)
Have you ever noticed that as the babies grow, the parents begin to look like them ?

WR.
Totally agree. Love my sons and grandchild to bits but never talk about them unless specifically asked about their lives, etc.
Nothing more boring otherwise.
